City of Saginaw, Michigan

October 5, 2023 SAGINAW, MI – The Saginaw Fire Department will host their annual awards ceremony and open house on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the headquarters of the Saginaw Fire Department, 801 Federal Avenue.

The awards ceremony will honor those who went above and beyond the call of duty when help was desperately needed. Interim Saginaw Fire Chief Brandon Hausbeck explained the importance of the event. “Our awards ceremony allows us the opportunity to recognize the efforts of citizens, firefighters, and other first responders who have made the City of Saginaw a safer community. It also provides us an opportunity to honor those firefighters who have lost their lives in their service to the City of Saginaw.”

Following the ceremony and presentation of awards, there will be tours of the fire station available for all who are interested. Refreshments will also be available at that time.

The awards ceremony is in recognition of Fire Prevention Week 2023, which is October 8 through October 14. The event is in partnership with the National Fire Protection Association to promote fire prevention and fire safety. “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention” is the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week. The theme effectively serves to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.

Interim Fire Chief Brandon Hausbeck commented on the 2023 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Year after year, cooking remains the leading cause of home fires by far, accounting for almost half of all U.S. home fires. This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign will work to promote tips, guidelines, and recommendations that can help significantly reduce the risk of having a cooking fire. Staying in the kitchen, using a timer, and avoiding distractions that remove your focus from what’s on the stove are among the key messages for this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign.

Saginaw residents are encouraged to visit the NFPA website at www.nfpa.org/fpw for additional fire prevention awareness and preparation information.
