City of Saginaw MI -

The Saginaw Fire Department will be hosting an awards ceremony and open house on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the headquarters of the Saginaw Fire Department located at 801 Federal Avenue.

The awards ceremony will honor those who went above and beyond the call of duty when help was desperately needed. Saginaw Fire Chief Chris Van Loo explains the importance of the event in saying, “Our annual awards ceremony allows us the opportunity to recognize the efforts of citizens, fire fighters, and other first responders who have made the City of Saginaw a safer community. It also provides us an opportunity to honor those fire fighters who have lost their lives in their service to the City of Saginaw”.

The 2018 awards ceremony will also feature a presentation from the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center to recognize the Saginaw Fire Department with the 2018 Leland Gayheart Fire Safety and Prevention Award. The Saginaw Fire Department received this honor for their recently completed carbon monoxide alarm installation program.

The awards ceremony is in recognition of Fire Prevention Week 2018, which is set to be October 7 through October 13. The event is in partnership with the National Fire Protection Association to promote fire prevention and fire safety. “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere!” is the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week. The theme reminds all residents to look for places that fire can start, listen for the sound of the smoke alarm, and learn two ways out of each room.
