City of Saginaw, Michigan

The Training Division is responsible for providing solid, realistic, and on-going training to meet the needs of our firefighters. The function of the Training Division is to conduct, coordinate and manage training safety and health programs. Our training programs are designed to enhance the professional development of firefighters through multi-faceted courses that meet the requirements of law. Training and education are recognized as an essential key in keeping the community safe from disasters and hostile fires. The focus of the safety and health program is the reduction of injuries and hazards. The program utilizes a process of review, investigation, inspection, documentation, and training which simultaneously limits the City’s liability against fines and lawsuits for noncompliance of laws and standards.

In addition to regular in-house training, the Saginaw Fire Department collaborates with other Fire Departments and outside agencies such as the US Coast Guard, DNR and Saginaw County Dive Team to conduct training in fire ground operations, firefighter survival, Hazardous Materials, and Water & Ice rescue.
