City of Saginaw MI -
SAGINAW CITY HALL WEST ENTRANCE TO CLOSE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21
The west entrance of Saginaw’s City Hall, located at 1315 S. Washington Avenue, will be closed effective Monday morning, November 21, 2016. In September, the City Council approved a contract with DC Byers, of Detroit, MI to repair the stairs for City Hall. The repair of the stairs for the east entrance of City Hall has been completed. DC Byers will begin work on the stairs at the west entrance of City Hall. The west entrance will be closed for all use, and access to the building will be through the east entrance (which faces Washington Avenue).
As the closed west entrance is the designated handicap entrance to the building, temporary handicap accessibility will be provided through the east entrance to City Hall on Washington Avenue. Handicap ramps will route visitors from the handicap parking in the west city hall parking lot behind the building, to the south of the building, and then to the east entrance ramp. All ramps will be ADA compliant with a non-slip surface and handrails.
Parking in the west City Hall parking lot will still be allowed. The Drop Box for payments will remain accessible throughout the project. The Drop Box is located in the middle of the west City Hall parking lot. Visitors may park on Washington Avenue but should be aware the only curb cut for handicap accessibility is at the intersection of Holland and Washington. The project is expected to be completed by November 30, and upon completion the west entrance will re-open.
Bruce Caradine, Facilities Administrator, stated "Visitors will have to travel a greater distance from where they park to enter the building, and those with mobility concerns may want to have someone assist them with entering and exiting City Hall. We understand the project may result in a temporarily inconvenience entering and leaving City Hall; however the condition of the stairs created a safety hazard that had to be repaired. Once the project is completed, the beautiful granite and stone steps will last decades."
If you would like more information on the City Hall stair repair project or ADA accessibility to the building, please contact Facilities Administrator Bruce Caradine at 989-759-1675.
