This year’s fireworks display, sponsored by Saginaw Area Fireworks, Inc., will begin at 10:15 pm on Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 from Ojibway Island. The 40-minute exhibition will be electronically fired, choreographed to music and a simulcast will be aired on WSGW (FM 100.5). The fireworks will also be displayed on WNEM TV-5, Charter Channel 7. The program will begin with six single-shell salutes.
The BR FMC & Meggitt Parking Lot, located on N. Niagara between Throop and Holland, will again be closed to all vehicles to allow for excellent viewing of the Fireworks display to pedestrians. Food vendors will be set up as early as 3:00 pm selling items such as soda, popcorn, hot dogs, Italian ice and elephant ears.
The Riverwalk which extends across the north end of Ojibway Island, including the pedestrian bridge across the north channel, will be closed to pedestrian and bicycle traffic on Friday, June 30th. No pedestrian traffic will be permitted at the north end of the park where fireworks crews will be working. The Riverwalk will re-open Wednesday, July 5th.
Ojibway Island will be closed on Monday, July 3rd at 7:00 pm in preparation for the fireworks, and the south end will re-open on Wednesday, July 5th at 6:00 am.
Holland Ave. Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic at 6:00 am on Tuesday, July 4th and will re-open Wednesday, July 5th at 6:00 am.
Court St. Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic at 6:00 am on Tuesday, July 4th and will re-open following the fireworks display.
Genesee Ave. Bridge is closed to all vehicular traffic until further notice due to a building demolition adjacent to the bridge.
Ezra Rust Dr. at Washington Ave. and Fordney St. at Rust Ave. (M-46) will be closed to through vehicular traffic on Tuesday, July 4th at 6:00 pm and will re-open after the event.
Niagara St., between Adams St. and Madison St., will be closed to vehicular traffic on Tuesday, July 4th at 6:00 pm and will re-open after the event.
Court St., between Michigan Ave. and Hamilton St. will be closed to vehicular traffic on Tuesday, July 4th at 6:00 pm and will re-open after the event.
Hamilton St., between Adams St. and Ames St. will be closed to vehicular traffic on Tuesday, July 4th at 6:00 pm and will re-open after the event.
Hancock St., between Michigan Ave. and Niagara St., will be closed to vehicular traffic on Tuesday, July 4th at 6:00 pm and will re-open after the event.
The Saginaw River will be closed to boating traffic between Holland St. and the turning basin at Ojibway Island on Tuesday, July 4th from 8:00 pm until midnight.
Approved Parking is available for fireworks spectators on Tuesday, July 4th throughout the central park system. LOCATIONS INCLUDE: Garber Tennis Courts Parking Area, Andersen Celebration Park and Hoyt Park. Saginaw Police Officers and members of the Saginaw Police Reserves will be on hand to direct traffic and assist with parking directions. Vehicles are NOT allowed on Ojibway Island on Tuesday, July 4th without a valid parking pass.
Rain Delay: In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks display will be rescheduled for Wednesday, July 5th at 10:15 pm.
Prohibited: Police and Parks Division personnel emphasize NO FIREWORKS (including sparklers) NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, NO DOGS and NO BICYCLES allowed on Ojibway Island, at the BR FMC & Meggitt parking lot, or in any other public facilities. *The Fire Dept. will be on-duty and patrolling during the entire evening, and will confiscate all fireworks.
City offices will be closed Tuesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.
Venues/Events: The YMCA, Castle Museum, Children’s Zoo and the Motorfest on Ojibway Island will be open to the public with free admission for anyone visiting the City of Saginaw on the 4th of July.
Contributions: Volunteers wearing the Saginaw Area Fireworks t-shirts will be walking through the crowds requesting donations on July 4th. Donations may also be sent to Saginaw Area Fireworks, P.O. Box 1923, Saginaw, MI 48605, or by PayPal by accessing its website at saginawareafireworks.com.
All Vendors must have and display the necessary permit to operate and sell goods during the event. Failure to do so will result in their removal and/or incurred penalties and fines. For proper guidelines please refer to the City of Saginaw Code of Ordinances, Chapter 110 - General Provisions. Vending at the BR FMC & Meggitt parking lot, behind 628 N. Hamilton, and on Ojibway Island is restricted to Saginaw Area Fireworks participants only.
Flag Raising: Saginaw Area Fireworks will be raising its 80” x 50” flag again this year on July 4th at the Andersen / Court Street Bridge at 10:00 a.m. Volunteers who would like to assist should be at the bridge at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will also be needed at 4:00 p.m. as the flag is lowered at 4:30 p.m.
