Leaf Collection

The City's leaf collection program normally runs from mid-October to the end of November. This is the only time of year that it is legal for residents to rake anything into the street.

The advantage of the program, is that people are spared the extra work of bagging their leaves; they simply rake them into the street. Also, the process cuts the collection volumes in half for the fall months. Since the leaves are composted locally, the program saves 20,000 cubic yards of landfill space annually.

There are two things residents can do to make the leaf collection more efficient:

  1. Rake the leaves several inches into the street in a row parallel to the curb.
  2. Watch the schedule and have your leaves raked into the street one day prior to the time that the crews will be in your district.

The City's goal is to collect from every street once during the program. Certain things can slow the program down. Residents are asked to cooperate by:

  • NOT putting branches, cornstalks or similar materials in the street as it will clog the leaf collection equipment,
  • NOT parking their cars on the street during a scheduled collection, and
  • NOT raking leaves into the street after the final collection day for your district.

Leaves may be placed in containers marked YARD WASTE for pickup during the regular rubbish collection.
