City of Saginaw MI -
Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Division outlines strategies to determine Saginaw’s fire prevention needs and creates programs and services necessary to accommodate the community. The Divisions plan review program ensures proper fire and life safety protection for new construction, renovations, and additions. Fire investigation is another important function of the Fire Prevention Division. The Saginaw Fire Department works closely with the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Division to determine origin, cause, and the circumstances of all fires. When arson is suspected, the Division, in concert with the Michigan State Police, seek out the responsible party and obtains arrest warrants whenever possible.

Arson Tip Line: 1-800-44-ARSON

Burn Prevention Tip: Loose Clothing: Tuck in all clothing around any open flame. The flames from a grill, fireplace or campfire will ignite loose clothing instantly.

Surviving a Fire: When escaping a fire, test the doorknob and spaces around the door with the back of your hand. If it's cool, slowly open the door and look for signs of smoke or fire. If you encounter smoke, heat or flames, try another escape route.
