Japanese Cultural Center and Tea House

The Japanese Cultural Center, comprised of the tea house and garden, was established as a symbol of friendship and cultural exchange with Saginaw's Sister City, Tokushima, Japan. These facilities are the result of a unique partnership. The citizens of both Tokushima and Saginaw shared in the cost of constructing the tea house, built on land jointly owned by both cities.

The tea house is of authentic design and crafted in keeping with traditional Japanese architecture. The tea houses provide a ceremonial setting for the tea ceremony (Chado), promoting the concept of global and international harmony, respect, purity and tranquility, expressing "Peace through a bowl of tea."

Take a trip to the Orient in Celebration Square. The serenity of the Oriental culture blends well with an excellent example of traditional Japanese construction. Tea ceremonies are conducted in an authentic tea house (no nails were used in its construction!). The scenic gardens are open year-round.
