The City of Saginaw has many parks and facilities available to the public for recreation on a first come, first served basis.  We maintain 320 acres of parks, boulevards, and land management.

Our parks are open from sunrise to sunset everyday; however, no alcoholic beverages are allowed on premises without a special event permit and written prior approval from City Council.  We request that all posted park rules are followed and visitors’ respect others rights so everyone can enjoy the parks and facilities in the same manner.  If you have any questions, please call 759-2191.

Boat Launch

This facility provides easy and convenient launching of all types of boats.  Daily boat passes can be purchased for $7 or season passes can be purchased for $35.00.  Season passes can be purchased at the attendants building located at the entrance to the boat launch or at City Hall in the Treasurer’s Office (Room 105), 1315 S. Washington Avenue.  Single personal vehicle daily parking is $2.00.   Beginning mid-season, September 1st the season passes can be purchased for $17.50 a 50% savings.

Noxious Weeds

The Weed Abatement program is responsible for cutting noxious weeds on properties owned but not maintained, vacant lots and in some cases Saginaw land bank properties within the boundaries of the City of Saginaw.  It shall be the duty of each property owner, possessor or occupier of land, and every person having charge of any land within the City of Saginaw to cut or remove all noxious weeds on or before the first Monday in May of each year.

If weeds are not cut by the first Monday in May, and as often thereafter as necessary, the City of Saginaw may enter upon the land and cause all such weeds to be cut down.

Weed growth on lots adjacent to residential uses may not exceed nine inches.  Weed growth on lots adjacent to non-residential property may not exceed nine inches.  Weed growth in excess of these limits will be cause for the City of Saginaw to enter private land and cause such weeds to be cut down.  All expenses of such cutting, including any and all costs incurred in the removal or relocation of debris, junk or other miscellaneous obstructions which would be necessary or convenient to carrying out the requirements shall be paid by the owner of such land plus an administrative service charge per parcel, per cutting.

Green Point Environmental Center

Green Point is a cooperative project between the City of Saginaw and the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge.  Green Point serves as the refuge’s educational facility and consists of 76-acres of bottomland hardwood forest, wetland, field and riverine habitats.  Even though Green Point lies within Saginaw’s City limits, it is home to a variety of wildlife!

Green Point has over 2.5 miles of trails for hiking and cross-country skiing.  Please note that bicycles and pets are not allowed on the trails.  Inside the building visitors will find displays, aquariums, a working bee hive, wildlife observation area, classroom space for up to 60 people, and accessible restrooms.

Staff provides schools and other organized groups with environmental education programs year-round.  Programs must be scheduled in advance by calling (989) 759-1669.

Green Point’s building hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; closed all Federal holidays. Trails are open every day, during daylight hours.  Please note that there may be times when the building is closed due to staff working elsewhere on the refuge.
