Andersen Enrichment Center
Watercolors and Acrylics by Victoria Scelfo
Connections: Watercolors and Acrylics by Victoria Scelfo is on display now through May 30, 2008. This exhibition features a unique collection of bold, vibrant acrylics and uniquely realistic watercolors by Scelfo, a self-taught and award winning artist. The exhibition will be on display at the Andersen Enrichment Center, 120 Ezra Rust, across from Ojibway Island in Saginaw. Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Victoria began her exploration into art in high school and began to model for classes at a young age while studying oil painting and pastel. She believes that her subject matter often dictates the technique and medium she will use. Her work now focuses on watercolor, acrylic and gouache, three water soluble mediums.
Ms. Scelfo owns and operates “The Painted Lady Art Promotions,” contracting world renowned artists for multi-day workshops held locally, is coordinator of the Thumb Area Center for the Arts’ “One Day Wonder Workshops,” and also does graphic design work for area businesses and organizations. She lives in Caro with her husband of 17 years and close to her five grandchildren.
“I paint only what I have a connection with. That may be a lovely piece of fruit I found in the produce department, as I found the colors to have intriguing nuances, or the essence of the ocean as it feels to ME when I look at it. It could be the face of one of my grandchildren playing dress up or the layers of color that a landscape provides. Whatever the subject matter, trust that if I chose to paint it, I felt connected to it in some manner. I do NOT paint for the sake of painting but for the sake of FEELING. Otherwise, what would be the point and how would I ever let anyone in to feel and hear my creative voice,” Victoria Scelfo.
