Fire Prevention Bureau conducts educational workshops to assist citizens in recognizing and possibly eliminating fire hazards. The Fire Prevention Bureau collects data to identify and develop public awareness programs that can prevent fires.
The Fire Prevention Bureau also conducts mandated and discretionary inspections to ensure compliance with state and local fire codes. Follow-up inspections are conducted to ensure correction of fire hazards. The Inspectors work directly with other city and state code enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable codes. The Fire Prevention Bureau conducts plan reviews to ensure proper fire protection to all new construction projects, renovations, and additions. The Bureau also investigates all fires that occur in the city. It determines origin, cause and the circumstances of each and every fire in the city of Saginaw. If arson is suspected, the Bureau conducts a thorough investigation that includes witness and suspect interviews, search warrants, arrest warrants and expert court testimony.
The Fire Prevention Bureau visits all city public and parochial schools with the Fire Safety House to educate students in fire safety.
