The Planning and Zoning Division provides staff services to the Board of Appeals on Zoning, which conducts public hearings on requests for variances from the zoning ordinance; and the City Planning Commission, which holds public hearing on rezoning, street and alley vacation and special land use requests. They also have the responsibility for site plan review for new construction in the City; and the Historic District Commission, which reviews requests for changes to structures in the City's two historic districts. Staff also works to ensure that provisions are met . A part of this process has been updating the City's Zoning Code to comply with the Master Plan and staff and citizen suggestions.
