  • NEW ELECTRONIC POLL BOOK

Saginaw, like several other municipalities across Saginaw County, will be introducing the new Electronic Poll Book (E-Poll Book) at the Tuesday, August 3, 2010 Primary Election.    In March, the City applied for and received a grant from the State of Michigan for laptop computers and accessories to be used at the City’s twenty-two precincts.  The E-Poll Book will replace the hand-written poll book and poll lists and provide a faster and more accurate method of identifying voters.  For those voters who have State issued identification cards and driver’s licenses, a mere swipe of that card through the card reader will bring that voter’s information on the screen.  From there, a ballot may be issued and the voter’s name automatically added to a computer poll list.  Each computer will have a list of registered voters for that precinct and will also include a list of all other City-registered voters.  In this way, if someone is at the wrong precinct, they can quickly be directed to the correct precinct without having to call the City Clerk’s Office.  Election workers handling the computers have been trained; however, this is a new process and it may take a few elections to become proficient.  Combining several tasks by election workers into one will potentially reduce the number of election workers needed at each precinct.
