Responsibilities:
The City Attorney’s Office provides advice and counsel to the City Council, City Manager, department and division supervisors, and employees of the city on city-related business. In addition, the City Attorney’s Office provides assistance and counsel to the city’s boards and commissions, and it represents the City and city employees when they are sued for acts occurring in the course of their employment.
Duties of the City Attorney:
- Attend all City Council meetings and all administrative, board, commission and committee meetings, as needed.
- Research, draft and review all ordinances, policies, legal documents, agreements and contracts. Research, draft and review resolutions, memoranda, agendas, and correspondence, as needed.
- Negotiate or assist in the negotiation of contracts, agreements and real estate transactions, as needed.
- Prosecute or defend civil court actions and coordinate legal services with contracted legal counsel and insurance carriers.
- Freedom of Information Act coordinator.
- Risk Management coordinator.
