National Incident Management System (NIMS)

The Saginaw Fire Department is trained in the use of NIMS for management of those incidents that require emergency response assets at all levels to resolve major occurrences.  The NIMS system provides a systematic, proactive approach to guide departments and agencies at all levels of government, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector to work seamlessly to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the effects of incidents, regardless of cause, size, location, or complexity, in order to reduce the loss of life and property and harm to the environment. All supervisory personnel have been certified in the latest U.S. Department of Homeland Security NIMS 300 level training with all command staff having completed the NIMS 400 level of training. Having all supervisory personnel trained to this level in NIMS makes the Saginaw Fire Department more effective in management and control of major incidents regardless of the nature or extent of an emergency operation.
